Obituary of Charles Reader
Chuck Reader of Sedgwick passed away suddenly on Sat. Mar. 23, 2013 at the age of 70 years. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Hazel, daughter Charlene (Dale) Probst and son Guy (Joanna) Reader, grandchildren Natalee (Huddlestone), Brittany (Oracheski), and Colton and Austin Reader. Great grandchildren Sienna, Tyson and Emily (Oracheski) and Baylee and Masyn (Huddlestone). One brother Bill Reader (companion Liz Hill) in Nova Scotia. Chuck was predeceased by his parents,6 half sisters and 2 half brothers.
Chuck grew up in Nova Scotia and spent his youth fishing and hunting. He moved west in 1959 at 17 years old and worked in sawmills in Caribou country for a few years. He met Hazel in July 1963 and swept her off her feet, marrying her in Dec 1963. The couple were blessed with 2 beautiful children, a daughter Charlene and a son Guy. After finishing his apprenticeship for an Autobody Mechanic he worked in the field for many years. Chuck moved the family to Kelowna and eventually to Lougheed in pursuit of establishing his own body shop.
This was realized and he opened "Chuck's Auto Body" in 1980, operating his business until 1994, when health issues forced closure.
After a period of recovery he joined the Maintenance Staff at Hardisty Hospital. In 2001, he took a promotion in the maintenance department in Swan Hills and worked there until his retirement in 2011.
Chuck and Hazel once again moved, back to the area, settling in Sedgewick. Chuck's "retirement" activities included renovations, hunting and fishing with the boys, bowling and bingo. He loved to spend time with the family and relaxing when he had time.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 28th at the Church of the Nazarene in Sedgwick.
Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of one's choice
