Obituary of Irene Baumgartner
Irene Helen Baumgartner was born to George and Therese Spiller on February 25, 1964, in Killam, Alberta. She passed away peacefully in Hardisty Hospital on March 22, 2017, at the age of 53 years.
Irene grew up in Killam where she attended the Catholic School and later Central High in Sedgewick where she met Todd. On May 14, 1983, Irene and Todd were united in marriage and made their home in Hardisty. To this union were born two sons and one daughter: Brett, Sheila, and Bradley.
Irene worked at the Killam Hospital LTC, Home Hardware, Connie’s Greenhouse, the arena concession and was also a fulltime homemaker. She was very outgoing and would always want to know who the new people were that she met in the community. She was involved in her children’s activities as they grew up and enjoyed spending her days with her grandchildren, cooking and baking, reading and crocheting. Irene was a kind and giving person with great faith. She had a great love for her home, her garden and flowers, and above all, her family.
Irene was predeceased by her brother Michael (1956), father-in-law Don (2007) and mother-in-law Gwynn (2011).
Irene leaves to mourn her passing, her husband Todd, children Brett (Amanda), Sheila, Bradley (Cynthia), grandchildren Beau and Molly, parents George and Therese Spiller, four brothers, five sisters, and a large extended family.
Irene was diagnosed in May 2016 with cancer and was hospitalized for the last few weeks before she passed away.
The family of Irene wish to express our sincere thanks to all our friends and relatives for their messages of sympathy, support and kindness shown in the loss of our dear wife, mother and grandmother. Thanks for all the masses, flowers, cards, memorial donations and food. Special thanks to Father Christian Nwaigwe and everyone who took part in the service, and to the ladies whom provided the lunch. We are also grateful for the services provided by Fee & Sons, and the pallbearers. A special thanks is extended to the doctors and staff of the Hardisty and Killam hospitals, Royal Alexandra Hospital Unit 33, and the Cross Cancer Institute. In memory of Irene, donations may be made to the Hardisty Hospital Auxiliary, Alberta Cancer Foundation, the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
