Obituary of Marge Elaine Prince
Margie Elaine (Marge) Prince
Marge was born April 3, 1922 at Mountain House, Alberta to Otto and Rosetta Reinke. She passed away October 22, 2016, 94½ years old at Killam Continuing Care.
Marge was the second oldest of 8 children. She took her big sister status very seriously, always looking out for her siblings. She was a great help on the farm from stooking bales, milking or driving machinery; always interested in how things worked.
After her marriage to her first love Gilbert Thompson, they moved to Killam where she worked at Fee & Sons hardware until she trained to become a hairdresser and opened Marge’s Beauty Salon. Marge was well known for her hairdressing skills and opened her business for many hairdressers starting out, to help them perfect their skills and get their license. Strong friendships developed and remain today.
Tragedy happened with the passing of her husband Gilbert. With the support of family, friends and her career she got through it. She opened her home to board some of the hospital staff for a time and also some of her nieces and nephews from Winnipeg while they attended school in Killam or Sedgewick on different years, that was a very special time for both. When younger brother Roy left the farm, he moved into her suite upstairs for a time.
She thought she would be a widow for life but then she met and married her second love, Joe Prince.
They enjoyed travelling together with family and friends. He also introduced her to golf, and they played many courses around Alberta.
When she wasn’t doing hair you could find her down town helping Joe in their upholstery business.
Marge loved her time spent with family and friends. Her door was always open and the coffee on. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed being teased. She was an avid gardener, sharing her talents by planting flowers at the legion yearly. You could never miss seeing her beautiful begonias in the front of the house that she had kept over from year to year. She liked helping out at her annual church supper and when she couldn’t, she always liked to attend so we kept that date open.
Marge was a very strong, determined lady and a loving Aunt. She loved learning and was always up for an adventure. We will all miss you beautiful lady!
