Obituary of Lorene Ellen Etty
Lorene Ellen Etty, daughter of John and Alice Christensen of Forestburg, was born April 8th, 1926 and passed away October 5th, 2016 in the Killam Extended Care at the age of 90 years.
She is survived by her two sons Bruce (Mary) Etty, Keith (Laura) Etty and one daughter Debra (Keith) McNabb, eight grandchildren Kevin (Lisa) Etty, Tracy (Clifford) Ness, Stephen (Sarah) Etty, Lisa (Clayton) Fedyniak, Heather Poettcker, Barbara (Greg) Symes, Lori (Brendan) Lunty and Kaylyn (Conor) Lunty. Fifteen great grandchildren Liam and Keira Etty, Taylor and Blake Ness, Teagan, Cason and Corbin Fedyniak, Ava and Zachary Poettcker, Madison, Payton and Logan Symes, Julie and Marielle Lunty and Troy Lunty.
She is survived by one sister Doris Roberts, one sister-in-law Kathleen Keichinger and one brother-in-law Bill Etty and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband George, her parents John and Alice Christensen, brothers-in-law Gordon Roberts, Albert, Ken Etty, Michael Keichinger Sr. and sisters-in-law Helen, Juliana and Dora Etty.
Lorene was raised on a farm east and north of Forestburg attending Forestburg School. She spent Sundays attending Pleasington Church in the country close to where they lived. She worked at various jobs in Edmonton returning to Galahad and working at Galahad Hospital where she met her husband George. She married George on December 19th, 1945. They lived about five miles out of Galahad on a farm.
Lorene had a special gift with music. She played the organ by ear and was the pianist for the Presbyterian Church in Galahad for years. She enjoyed volunteering with the Galahad Hospital Auxiliary and being part of the Presbyterian W.A. She was an excellent cook and could cook almost anything from scratch. She enjoyed having people over for a meal to socialize and play cards. She enjoyed bowling, ice curling, floor curling, and especially playing bingo over the years.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and going on vacation through the years with George. She was a hard worker and worked for many years at the Galahad Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11th, 2016 at the Galahad Agriplex with Reverend Stephen Haughland officiating. Memorial donations in memory of Lorene may be made to the Galahad Cemetery or a charity of the donor’s choice.
