Obituary of Emil Heier
Emil Heier was born to Matilda and Rudolf Heier on October 7, 1931 and passed away peacefully with his daughter by his side at the Hardisty Long Term Care facility on February 4, 2016 at the age of 84 years.
He is survived by his two children Gerry (Gloria) Rundle and Maria (Brent Dion) Heier (Cookson); grandchildren Chenelle (Mark) McDevitt, Jodi (John) Barrie, Susanne Jackson, Dee-Ann (Kyle) Morris and six great grandchildren Matthew, Victoria and Emily Barrie, Rachelle and Cody Jackson and Jackson Morris. Emil has one sister-in-law Helen Heier and numerous nieces and nephews. His sister Erna Bantel still resides in the Valleyview Long Term Care.
His life was filled from morning till night. He was an extremely hard working man. It was a life he took pride in. He worked hard on the farm with his parents and siblings. Emil married Helga on April 20, 1963 and that is when he went into the construction industry to provide for his family while continuing to help on the family farm. Emil was a brick layer and a laborer in the construction industry for years.
His ultimate love was wishes of love for his children, grandchildren, friends, neighbors, church and the love of the Lord. He was a long term member of the St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Calgary.
Emil enjoyed doing anything and everything to help others. No job was too big or small. He was the ultimate handy-man from rototilling gardens, keeping the neighborhood sidewalks cleaned, building, roofing, parging, you name it, Emil did it. He never wanted to be paid, just a good hot meal and someone to discuss the Lord with and good conversations.
When Emil came to the Long Term Care in Coronation and Hardisty he was able to do leather work and puzzles, go for his long drives to the garden centre or over to his daughter’s house and admire the flowers and huge tomatoes. He loved when his son or daughter came to visit or any company at all.
It took him a while to settle in, but once he did his love of food was there because he wanted one of everything. Snacks would put a huge smile on his face. He helped with planting the plants into pots and watering at times. Emil had his devotion time every day as his love of the Lord was very important.
Spending time with all the staff at the Long Term Care brought much joy. He enjoyed sharing in hymns, readings of the Bible and expressing his love of gardening and farming. The staff became very much part of his family as he enjoyed the big hugs and gratitude that was shown and shared. Every friendship made to Emil was precious.
Emil touched many people lives through his love and devotion. His legacy will continue for generations through all that he touched.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Hardisty Cemetery on Tuesday, February 9, 2016. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hardisty Auxiliary Hospital or a charity of the donor’s choice.
May God be with you. God bless. Rest in peace pops/dad/ papa bear.
