Lylas Maureen Bruce
November 8, 1945 – December 20, 2023
It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we share the passing of Lylas Maureen Bruce (nee McGowan) at the age of 78, on Wednesday, December 20th 2023 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital, where she was surrounded by family in her final hours. After a brief period of illness, Lylas fell victim to a broken health care system.
Lylas was predeceased by her father Malcolm McGowan, mother Ethel Craig McGowan Goodhope, brothers Fred & Robert McGown, sisters Naomi Adolph & Elaine McGowan, baby boy George Paul Bruce; several half siblings (Goodhope family). She leaves to mourn her husband of 59 years, Ken Bruce; daughter Brenda (Troy), Abby & Lauren; daughter Cindy (Trevor) Alexis (David) & Brayden (Alecia); son Brian (Paula), Thomas & Kenna; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, & cousins.
Lylas always had a good story to share everywhere she went. Libraries and bookstores will not be the same, as her love of reading supported many! She was a great cook, meticulous bookkeeper and constant guardian of her family and friends. She always looked forward to Spring when she could hit the local greenhouses to buy her favorite flowers and get her tomato “trees” growing!
As per Lylas’ wishes a funeral service will not be held. A private celebration of life will take place at a later date.
