Obituary of Tom Johnsey
‘Poppa Tom’ - Thomas Charles Johnsey of Forestburg, Alberta passed away on November 7th, 2023 at the age of 84.
Tom was predeceased by his wife Ruth, his parents Lillian and Albert as well as his first wife Shirley and son Thomas (Chuck).
He was survived by his children Tim (Jody), Laurel (Lorne) and Chris (Amy). Grandchildren Josh (Anna), Brandon (Kim), Janine (TJ), Laken (Jonathan), Abigayle, Jesse, Lane, Ashleigh and Victoria as well as great-grandchildren Layla, Maike and Owen.
Tom was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and raised in Springside, Saskatchewan but work brought Tom to Forestburg, Alberta to the Paintearth Mine. While living in Forestburg, he met Shirley and they went on to have four children and plant their roots. Tom worked at the Mine for forty years before “retiring” but then went on to continue working with his sons at the Battle River Generating Station as a scaffolder; he didn’t know how to retire and always kept busy.
Tom will be missed by family, neighbours and friends and leaves behind memories of having a coffee at Cedars or lunch at the Deli, sleepovers at “Poppas”, helping around the farm and much more.
Tom requested to have no funeral service.
