Obituary of Dorothy Lunty
Dorothy Alice was born to Horace and Beatrice Vincett on Friday, March 27, 1925 and passed away January 30, 2015 in her 89th year. Dorothy grew up on the farm near Galahad, along with her brothers and sisters. After completing her schooling at Galahad, she attended the Edmonton Normal School for a 14 week course in teacher training and taught at the Goodlands, Galahad and Red Willow schools. While teaching at Galahad, she was introduced to Glenn Lunty of Forestburg which resulted in their marriage in December of 1948. Mom was a full partner in the farm; raising chickens, milking cows, and growing and preserving produce from a huge garden.
Mom, always the teacher, taught her children to do their best, love one another and share what you have. Family gatherings often featured intense scrabble and cribbage games. She enjoyed crosswords and jigsaw puzzles which kept her mind sharp. Reading was a favorite pastime. She kept a daily journal. Her observations became the basis of many stories and poems, some published, but many more shared with her children and grandchildren. A cup of tea was always enjoyed by friends and family and she amused us all with her ability to "read" futures in the tea leaves.
When her family was young Mom sewed and mended out of necessity and continued with these skills up until her passing, helping many children, grandchildren and community members. As a child of the depression era she was a woman ahead of her time, recycling old garments to create patchwork, hand tied quilts. She also darned many pairs of work socks and knitted many pairs of mittens. As time permitted Mom was involved in church and community groups. In her later years, her children and grandchildren all marvelled at her adventurous spirit to try new things.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Glenn, infant son Harvey, two sisters and six brothers. She leaves many family members to lovingly remember her, children Vivian (Ken) Lopetinsky, Gordon (Terry) Lunty, Charlotte (Daniel) Dunwoody, Lois (Robert) Ponto, Jeanette (Dennis) Herle, John (Marnie) Lunty, and Christine (Darryl) Walker, 21 grandchildren ; Margaret (Brad) Larson, Barbara (Wayne) Heibert, Robert (Sierra) Lopetinsky, Brandon (Erin) Lunty, Nathan Lunty, Gerard (Faye) Dunwoody, Vanessa (Derrick) Sheane, Daniel (Ashley) Dunwoody, Sabrina (Kelly) Hilbert, Heather (Christopher) Zarski, Landon (Alexis) Ponto, Colleen, Laura, Emma Herle, Amy (Lyle) Neumann, Corey, Eric (Amanda) Lunty, Mason, Colin, Janessa, Jeremy Walker, 16 great grandchildren; Ethan Heibert, Genevieve and Theodore Lopetinsky, Kate and Brooke Dunwoody, Parker, Evan and Zack Sheane, Marcus, Clara and Brant Hilbert, Eden, Molly and Riley Zarski, Brett and Kailyn Neumann, 2 sisters and one brother, as well as a host of caring in laws, nieces and nephews, friends and residents of Big Knife Villa where she resided for the last years.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 6th at the Forestburg Community Hall. Memorial donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to the Forestburg Community Enhancement Fund, the Bethel United Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
