TO SERVE:
Webster's Dictionary states the word "serve" has many definitions. In fact, as I looked through the dictionary, I found it to have over 20 definitions!
When I think of Dad, the word SERVE, I believe, describes him very well. In the next few minutes, I would like to talk to you about how Reginald Fee and the word serve are one in the same.
One definition of serve states "to hold an office or to act in a capacity". We all know Dad served in this manner most of his adult life, from serving as team manager to numerous hockey teams, to serving as mayor or town council for the town of Killam, to being president or a board member of the funeral director's or to the hospital, to serving here at St. Joseph's in many capacities. Dad EPITOMIZED this definition perfectly.
A second definition of serve states "to wait on others or to do customer service". Well, in Dad's case, this was a daily occurrence. Whether it was at the Hardware Store or at the Funeral Home, Dad was there to wait or serve others. Some days it was just basic things like nails and paint, while other days it was for serious or pressing matters, like comforting those who have lost a loved one. He did this service in the most professional of ways, making sure ALL involved received the best and most complete service that could be offered.
A third definition of serve "is to be worthy of reliance and trust". As a father and mentor, we could not ask for someone more understanding and compassionate. We could rely and trust in his judgement, his ideas and through his strength, we could AND have persevered. I myself strive EVERYDAY to be the best father, husband, and role model that my dad was to me.
The fourth and final definition I will talk about "is the ability to provide services that benefit and help". Many things I have already said fit this definition. But one "passion" to benefit and help became Dad's most important service in his later years. His passion for Cerebral Palsy and to find a cure for this disease was I believe his greatest achievement. The satisfaction to walk for Chloe and to help others in this battle was something he was most proud of!
So you can see, Dad "served" in many ways. He has served his wife, his family, his community, and each and everyone of you here today. "TO SERVE"…I think this is the best way to describe the person who is my IDOL, my Dad, Reg Fee.
